Bunbury detectives and arson squad officials are investigating a blaze that hit two units in Carey Park yesterday morning.
According to South West Police, officers and fire crews were alerted to a fire in Tipping Street at 4.50am on June 19.
It is believed the blaze started in the carport, before causing significant damage to one unit.
An adjacent unit and multiple adjacent carports also received extensive damage.
The units’ occupants were home at the time, but managed to escape unharmed.
The fire was deemed as suspicious, with detectives and arson squad personnel conducting a forensic investigation into the cause of the blaze.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant James Gaunt said the total damage bill was set at around $300,000.
“Police have spoken to witnesses and we’ve taken statements from people,” he said.
“It is still in it’s infancy and we’re working towards a resolution.”
Det. Sen. Sgt. Gaunt assured the public the blaze was not caused by a meth lab explosion.
He revealed a television and multiple windows had exploded due to the intense heat of the blaze.
Police urge people with information about the fire, or witnesses to suspicious activity on Tipping Street between 4am and 4.45am, to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at www.crimestopperswa.com.au
