Bunbury soccer powerhouse Josh Risdon will soon descend upon Fisht Stadium, Sochi for the Caltex Socceroos’ third Group C clash in this year’s FIFA World Cup.
The Australian side will face off against Peru, needing a win to remain in the competition.
Risdon and the Socceroos, led by coach Bert Van Marwijk, have had a World Cup campaign of exhilarating highs and basement-bottom lows, so far.
During the team’s first Group Stage match against France, Risdon brought down French striker Antoine Griezmann in the box.
Following a controversial VAR decision, France converted the penalty and went one-up just before the one-hour mark.
The French side claimed a 2-1 victory, putting Australia on the back foot prior to its showdown with Denmark.
Overcoming the loss to France, the Socceroos gained momentum and set up a bundle of chances against Denmark.
Mile Jedinak’s second penalty of the tournament led to a 1-1 draw against the Danish side.
