Wind and high tide failed to prevent the Bunbury Rowing Club from hosting its first Big Boat Sprint Regatta for 2018.
Held at the Leschenault Inlet on June 30, the regatta featured 224 rowers competing in 56 races across 32 events.
Teams from the West Australian Rowing Club, Swan River Rowing Club, Fremantle Rowing Club, University of Western Australia Boat Club, Curtin University, Old Scotch Collegians, and ANA Rowing Club took part.
Each event spanned 500 metres, with races limited to big boats (teams of between four and eight rowers each).
Bunbury was victorious in the Masters Women A to K Coxless Quad event.
Bunbury rowers Barb Della-Sale and Lorelle Klumpp said it was an enjoyable and exciting day.
“We’ve got lots of people from Perth down to Bunbury, and there’s a mixture of young rowers and masters rowers all rowing together,” Klumpp said.
“It’s an opportunity for Bunbury to race against other teams doing the same things.”
The Bunbury Rowing Club will host its second Big Boat Sprint Regatta for the year on Saturday, July 28.
