While there has been a scale back on funds in the City of Bunbury 2018/19 budget, there are still projects for ratepayers to look forward to.
The city will be borrowing $1 million to go towards promoting interest in a water playground.
City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said the planned water park’s future previously relied upon State Government funding.
“We are in the final stages of negotiations with the lessees of the Koombana Caravan Park and we’re looking at doing a jointly-funded water park and dry playground, those negotiations are continuing,” he said.
More than $20.6 million of the city’s $67,668,061 budget will cover projects under the ‘Our Community and Culture’ area.
This includes funding for events such as Australia Day, Christmas Carnival and expanding Bunbury’s path and cycle ways.
The city also reserved $27.4 million for its ‘Our Places and Spaces’ area which includes street signage, implementing the Withers Local Area Plan and dredging Pelican Point Canals.
More than $3 million has been allocated to support the region’s economy which will include promoting Bunbury’s tourism sector and corporate marketing activities.
Mr Brennan said funding for youth services would come via request from the city’s youth advisory council during the new financial year.
“The youth advisory council remains active and the city will consider any request we receive to assist with their projects,” he said.
Mr Brennan addressed the differences between the $90.8m 2017/18 budget and this year’s budget.
He said the state government had provided funds last year to help with the Koombana foreshore’s redevelopment.
