With the arrival of Uber coming soon, Bunbury’s original ride sharing service is urging the community to support local.
hi oscar has been operating in Bunbury and the South West for the past 12 months.
South West operations manager Brendan Robertson said it was inevitable that Uber would come to the region but didn’t expect it to happen so soon.
“Bunbury has been a bit funny, ridesharing isn’t always what people think of whereas in the cities it’s a bit more prevalent,” he said.
“I don’t think it will affect us too much but people will become more aware of ridesharing.
“We’re Australian-owned, we’re local whereas Uber is multinational – it’s all about being part of the community and supporting local.
“We were the first ones to come down to Bunbury, provided the service and people responded well.”
Uber announced earlier this month that they would be launching South West services in mid-August.
An Uber spokesperson said they believed their service would complement the existing transport network in the local area.
“We know there’s a limited supply of transport options in Bunbury and Busselton and demand is particularly high late at night and on the weekends,” they said.
