An organisation that supports women and children throughout the South West was recently given an extra helping hand.
The South West Refuge was given $10,000 last week from the Commonwealth Bank Bunbury Business Centre.
The grant is one of 1000 being distributed in celebration of a 100 year legacy of giving to community organisations.
South West Refuge chief executive Anita Shortland said she was delighted that the organisation had received the generous grant to support its work with children.
“Our refuge assists more children and young people each year than adult clients,” she said.
“We need suitable age-appropriate spaces for them to play, and safely engage with our specialist staff.
“The Child Advocate helps children understand they’re not to blame for the violence of others, and what to do if they don’t feel safe.
“This grant will help us refresh and update our kids’ space, add a sensory garden for young children, and fit out our new homework nook for older ones.”
Commonwealth Bank regional manager Corey Penn said it was incredible to see how the South West Refuge supported the wider community.
“It’s important to us that we support local organisations like South West Refuge,” he said.
“When we first found out about the CommBank Foundation’s Centenary Grants program, it was so exciting to have the opportunity to nominate a local organisation that’s meaningful for us.
“It was a unanimous decision to choose South West Refuge to receive the $10,000 grant.”
