A handful of trampoline athletes from Dalyellup’s Gravity ETC will soon test their skills in front of spectators and fellow competitors from around Australia.
Seven Elite Tech Skills Class members – Erik Laves, Dustin Kendall, Tyde Birrell, Hugh Telfer, Harvey Brown, Riley Stafford, and Summer Te Puke – will take part in the 2018 National Clubs Carnival on the Gold Coast this September.
The competitors will be the first Gravity ETC members to compete in a national tournament.
Kendall said the group relished the chance to represent Gravity ETC and Western Australia.
“It’s unreal, to be honest,” he said.
“It’s unique and not a lot of people do it. It is a privilege and a great opportunity.”
Each competitor will focus on stretching, conditioning, and perfecting routines prior to the event.
The centre has employed a nationally-recognised high performance coach, Lorenzo Zagari, to assist with each athlete’s skills and development.
Zagari travels from Perth to Bunbury every Tuesday to coach the Elite Tech Skills and recreational classes.
The seven team members practised endlessly and honed their skills before reaching the national level.
As a participant and a coach, Laves said trampolining was physically and emotionally rewarding.
“It’s all about the thrills and the fun it provides,” he said.
“It’s always a challenge and there’s no limit to how good you can be.
“You can always get better and there are always new tricks you can learn.”
The group said the Tech Skills class was based around skills, attitude, mental training, teamwork, and fun.
“It’s something you can try out and if you like it you can carry on with it,” Brown said.
“You should join because it’s really fun. Give it a go, there’s never going to be anything bad.
“Having a coach standing next to you and telling you what to do is really fun.”
The group has held raffles and special events to raise funds for the trip, collecting over $1000 so far.
They recently held a Gravity ETC Jungle Rock fundraiser, with more events scheduled for the near future.
