A group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Newton Moore Senior High School students have travelled to Canberra this week for a national leadership summit for NAIDOC Week.
In keeping with this year’s NAIDOC theme - “Because Of Her, We Can” - the Girls Academy is holding a summit from July 9 to July 11.
Year 12 Newton Moore Senior High School student Jade Riley plans to study architecture after she graduates said it was exciting to be part of the summit.
“I think it is pretty special after all these years of school we have done. we get something like this from the academy,” she said.
“I have never been to Canberra before and I am looking forward to meeting all the other girls who have achieved reaching Year 12, and to hearing the guest speakers.
“I just want to be someone that the younger girls can look up to and say ‘wow – I can do things, I can do that’, instead of being confined to the small things, instead of just always being who you are right now - you can aim big.”
