A man at the centre of a drug search in East Bunbury has been fined and given a community-based order.
Wesley Ron Cornish, 37, attended Bunbury Magistrates Court on Thursday, July 5 charged with attempting to possess prohibited drugs with intent to sell or supply, possessing cannabis, and possessing drug paraphernalia.
While searching Cornish’s residence in Dwyer Street on May 5, police uncovered 28 grams of cannabis, seven viles of cannabis resin, and multiple smoking implements.
Officers also found 112g of cannabis in Cornish’s letterbox, bought on the ‘dark web’.
Cornish told police he believed cannabis had healing qualities.
His lawyer told the court Cornish did not intend to sell the cannabis for commercial gain, and was willing to take on a community based order.
Cornish’s references said he was a man of "good character”.
Despite taking his guilty pleas into consideration, Magistrate Belinda Coleman stressed the illegality of possessing cannabis.
He was fined $500, given $100 in costs, and ordered to follow a 12-month community based order.
The order will require Cornish to undergo drug counselling, urinalysis testing, and 60 hours of community service.
