Bunbury Barbarians Juniors hosted their annual 7s Family Fun Day on Sunday, July 1.
Teams from Bunbury Barbarians, Busselton Beetles, Bunbury Bulls, Albany Storm, Mandurah Pirates, Kwinana Wolves, and Palmyra rugby clubs participated in the event.
Palmyra defeated Albany, 30 to 15, in the Under 8s event.
Albany’s U10 team took down Mandurah Pirates, 15 to 5. Meanwhile, Mandurah Pirates’ U12 side scored a 35 to 5 victory against the Bunbury Bulls.
Partnering with Headspace, the event has created awareness around mental and physical health and Wellbeing in the local sporting community.
Through this event, the club aimed to get young people involved in rugby to provide to them and their parents the opportunity to belong to a local friendly, family-focused club.
Players get to learn rugby skills and put it on display on this day.
The club thanked the Department of Sport and Recreation for their support.
The club has actively encouraged players to bring their best, play fair, and play by the rules
They have also encouraged players to show respect towards their teammates, opponents, match officials and parents.
A healthy active lifestyle is promoted, as well as the inclusion of all and giving everyone an fair opportunity to participate.
The event also provides players with an environment where they can be safe and enjoy sports.
The day was made possible by the collaborative efforts of the club’s volunteers.
Each of the winning teams in their respective age groups was presented with a shield.
The club has planned to host a Rugby 10s event in April, with support from Rugby WA.
