A Bunbury young person is urging the community to be kind and take time to talk this Homelessness Week.
Bunbury Youth Advisory Council member and homelessness advocate Bella Burgemeister has already reached some major goals having lockers for the homeless approved late last year by the City of Bunbury.
The forward-thinking 13-year-old said she hoped Homelessness Week would open people’s eyes a bit more.
“It’s important to let people know there is an issue and that it’s going to keep growing,” she said.
“If you’ve never really met with them before then some people do get the idea that they’re not friendly or that there not as nice as they actually are.
“A lot of homeless people that I’ve spoken to just want someone to talk to.
“Be really kind and talk to them if you do come into contact, lots of people look away or don’t talk to them but I think they best thing you can do is talk to them, ask how their day has been.”
