The winter weather alerts continue for South West residents with the Bureau of Meteorology advising of another cold front that will move over the state throughout Thursday.
The weather is expected to deliver cold, showery conditions until early Friday morning, with thunderstorms and small hail possible over the South West.
Thunderstorms and showers may produce damaging winds to 100 kilometres per hour that could cause damage to homes and property.
Damaging winds are likely over the warning area during this morning in the wake of the cold front. Whilst conditions are easing from the west, showers will continue for much of the day and could be heavy at times.
Tides will be higher than normal between Perth and Albany.
Wind gusts that have been recorded include 102 kilometres per hour at Cape Naturaliste at 07:13 am, 91 kilometres per hour at Rottnest Island at 1:30 am and 85 kilometres per hour at Cape Leeuwin at 7:28 am.
A flood watch has been issued for the Central West, Lower West and South West Districts.
Emergency services have so far responded to eight calls for assistance in the recent weather, with most of the calls from the Perth metropolitan area.
The warning advises residents to:
- Store or weigh down loose objects around your home like outdoor furniture that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds, causing damage or injury
- Ensure your emergency kit is complete including a battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit
- Ensure pets and animals are in a safe area
- Move vehicles under cover
- Boat owners should securely moor their boats
- Campers should find safe shelter away from trees, powerlines, storm water drains and streams
- Unplug electrical appliances and avoid using landline telephone if there is lightning.
- If you are away from home contact family or friends to prepare your property
