Junior soccer hopefuls from around the South West have been given the chance to showcase their skills to selectors.
Football Federation South West has begun trial sessions for players born between 2002 and 2006.
The organisation held its first session on August 7, with more due on the 14th, 21st, and 28th.
The trials will whittle the entire boys line-up down to 15 players, with the final squad set to visit Spain in May 2019.
While on tour, the group will be based at a Spanish team’s training facility and will be guided by professional coaches.
They will also play a handful of games against local sides.
An additional five goalkeepers will undergo training sessions with one of the country’s top teams.
As part of the federation’s first ever girls tour, the chosen players will be taking a trip to the United States.
The tour will give them a first-hand look at one of the biggest countries on Earth for women’s soccer.
While staying at a university, the girls will play games against several American teams, watch a National Women’s Soccer League game, and go sightseeing.
Football Federation South West regional development officer Gareth Johnston said the tours would be wholly unique.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience for these kids,” he said.
“We all dream of being that superstar player, and this will be a realistic opportunity for players to work in a professional environment overseas.
“It’s something that has happened in the past few years in the region, and we need to keep giving kids these opportunities so they don’t have to travel to Perth or over east.”
Football Federation South West girls development coach Nicole Suttie said: “It’s a great opportunity for them to all get together and have an experience.”
Applicants must be Football Federation South West Training Centre, Country Coastal Junior Soccer Association, Collie Soccer Association or South West Soccer Association members to be eligible for the trials.
The squads will be finalised in September.
