A middle-aged Melbourne cat burglar admits breaking into the homes of wealthy people and stealing valuable items, including a diamond bracelet and a $60,000 watch, to repay casino debts.
Chinese-born Di Miao, 54, pleaded guilty in the County Court on Tuesday to four burglaries at homes in Melbourne's affluent eastern suburbs over several years, sometimes wearing a black wig as a disguise.
Prosecutor Temple Saville said DNA evidence at the scenes led police in 2015 to search Miao's Doncaster home where detectives found a "plethora" of luxury items as well as a bag containing a wig, gloves and a torch.
