Since launching a pilot program in the South West two months ago, Edith Cowan University researchers have been busy learning from initiatives involved in the availability, access, and use of healthy food.
ECU School of Medical and Health Sciences lecturer, nutritionist and researcher Dr Stephanie Godrich said the project had received great support with several initiatives identified through word of mouth.
“We know we haven’t identified all of the projects across the region so we’re hoping the community can step forward and let us know about any initiatives out there to do with supporting healthy food availability, access and use,” she said.
Research assistant Jenny Payet said after interviewing 20 organisations so far she was surprised at the amount of innovation bubbling away quietly.
“They are community driven and independent of any funding or formal support but they’re functioning at a level that is having significant benefits for the community,” she said.
