Bunbury teachers and school are shining a light on education in the South West after several were recently announced as finalists for the State’s premier awards for teachers, principals, school support staff and public schools.
Newton Moore Senior High School’s head of maths Ashley Stewart is up for the WA Premier’s Secondary Teacher of the Year.
“It’s always excellent to be nominated for any award – I do a lot of different work around the school and our principal values innovation and because of that innovation she thought I deserved to win,” she said.
The school’s principal Susan Kerr has also been named as a finalist, for the WA Secondary Principal of the Year.
Australind’s Kingston Primary School could be named as the state’s Primary School of the year.
Manea Senior College and Newton Moore Education Support Centre were also highlighted in the prestigious awards as the potential Secondary School of the Year.
Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery said the awards were an opportunity to acknowledge inspiring teachers, outstanding principals, excellent school support staff and successful Western Australian public schools.
“I think every one of us can remember a stand-out teacher or other staff from our school days - and today’s group of educators is being rightly acknowledged for the mark they are making on students’ lives,” she said.
“Providing a high-quality education and equipping students for their futures are truly valuable endeavours, and I’m proud to recognise our finalists for their expertise and innovation.”
Winners will be announced on November 26, 2018.
