The Men’s South West Hockey League regular season will draw to a close with Round 21 this weekend.
The Towns/South Men started their season with mixed results, defeating Exies but losing to Collie, Wests, and Boyanup.
Although able to contend with Associates, Towns/South found Marist, Wests, and Boyanup to be tough competition.
The side was left reeling from losses to Marist and Wests in rounds 16 and 18 respectively.
After a mixed start to the season, Exies suffered several consecutive losses against the league’s top sides.
They regained their enthusiasm with a win over Associates in Round 13, before drawing with Towns/South and taking down Collie.
Defeated by Wests and Marist late in the season, the side could not get the job done.
Collie began its campaign with a loss, a win, and a draw.
The team could not find its momentum, going on to suffer crushing defeats to Marist, Boyanup, and Wests.
Collecting three wins from 20 matches, the team will look to create a fresh start in 2019.
Wests secured an impressive 15 wins from 20 rounds.
The side breezed through Collie, Boyanup, and Towns/South early on.
Eager to reach the finals, they went on to notch up victories against the other three teams during the season.
Wests will face stiff competition from Marist next month.
Following draws against Collie and Wests, Marist climbed up the table thanks to a six-game winning streak.
Carrying a 12 win/three draw/two loss record into Round 21, Marist stands a chance of collecting this year’s title.
Associates failed to hit the ground running, taking on four losses and one draw in the first five rounds.
Struggling under the might of the competition, the side has picked up only four wins for the year so far.
Boyanup shook off a narrow loss to Wests in Round two by scoring big wins against Associates, Exies, and Collie.
The squad then clinched an immaculate winning streak, between rounds eight and 16.
As it stands, Boyanup will likely face trouble from Marist and Wests in the finals.
