Women's South West Hockey League 2018 finals series approaches

The 2018 Women’s South West Hockey League competition has delivered many big wins, exciting moments, and talented players. With Round 21 bringing the season to a close, Boyanup remains on top of the ladder with 18 wins, two losses, and zero draws. They kicked off this year’s competition in style, clinching narrow wins over Robins and Associates as well as comfortable victories against Exies, Capel, and Towns/South. Despite losses to Marist in Round 12 and Robins in Round 15, the side was still able to maintain top spot all year. Gaining a 2/3 win-loss record in the first five rounds, Robins was in for a bumpy ride. Soon after, however, the Busselton line-up went on to claim convincing wins against Marist, Collie, Capel, and Exies. Powerful performances against Towns/South and Associates helped them to gain a 14/6 record with one round remaining. Marist, like Robins, began their championship run with some memorable and not-so-memorable performances. They gained a 3/2 record in the first five rounds before clinching seven consecutive wins between rounds 9 and 15. Despite losing to Boyanup and Robins late in the season, Marist may still give them a run for their money during the finals series. Rounding out the top four after 20 rounds, Associates stands a chance of delivering pleasing results next month. The side was expected to miss the finals following hit-and-miss performances between rounds one and ten. However, thanks to crushing wins against Capel and Collie later in the year, they did enough to outlast four of the competition’s eight teams. Having picked up 11 wins and 9 losses for the year so far, Collie sits right behind Associates on the ladder. In the second half of the season, the side lost crucial games to Boyanup, Robins, and Marist before securing huge wins over Associates and Exies. Collecting eight wins, eleven losses, and one draw from 20 rounds, Towns/South has endured a topsy-turvy season. Losses to Boyanup and Robins soured the team’s wins against Capel and Exies.
