Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault prepared for this month’s finals series with a 15-goal victory over powerhouse side Carey Park in Round 19.
The two went toe-to-toe at the Leschenault Recreation Centre, as the Lions got the better of the Panthers early on.
The tough contest saw HBL steadily extend its margin during the first term and run out to a 13 to 10 lead at quarter time.
Goal Shooter Giselle Taylor and Goal Attacker Sheridan Duke were accurate under the ring, while Brooke Repacholi intercepted multiple long passes from Carey Park.
HBL landed 17 to eight in the second term as the side earned itself a 12-goal lead at half time.
Led by Goal Attacker Sophie Bell and Goal Shooter Sid McAlister in the third, the Panthers matched the Lions’ speed.
HBL, however, benefited from a 14-goal lead at three-quarter time and maintained their momentum in the fourth, eventually claiming a 57 to 42 win.
The Lions finished the regular season in fourth, while Carey Park ended its run in second.
In the round’s other matches, Bunbury snatched up the minor premiership with a 73 to 29 demolition of South Bunbury at the South West Sports Centre.
Augusta-Margaret River’s 2018 campaign ended with a demoralising 83 to 36 loss to third-placed Busselton.
The finals kick off on September 9, with Bunbury locking horns with Carey Park and Busselton taking on HBL at Eaton Recreation Centre.
The Souwest Jets’ Under 18 side will face Perth Lions later this week after taking down West Coast Warriors, 52 to 49, in their semi-final.
