A Binningup woman has urged residents to remain alert after she had her wallet stolen and funds drained from her bank account.
After going for a walk with her kids on Thursday afternoon, Helena Newman left her wallet in her car port before going to bed.
She awoke on Friday morning to find the side gate open and her wallet missing from the car port.
Taking Mrs Newman’s situation from bad to worse, the culprits committed online transactions of $2196 (VCM Performance) and $365.83 (Spoilers and Bodykits, Maroochydore).
They then used her cards to make purchases at Eaton K-Mart, Eaton McDonalds, and a petrol station in the area.
Mrs Newman held discussions with Commonwealth Bank and alerted them to the fraudulent transactions.
She said the incident was unusual for an otherwise peaceful area.
“These people need to realise that they can’t get away with it – you will be caught and you will get charged,” she said.
“I know all of my neighbours and we all look out for each other.
“It doesn’t happen too often out here. However, over the past couple of months, there have been a few incidents here and there.”
Police investigations are currently underway.
