On September 13, headspace Bunbury, like many schools, communities and workplaces around Australia will be plastered in yellow and asking one very important question, R U OK?
headspace Bunbury have teamed up with the new café, Fat Cat’s Coffee House to spread awareness on the day.
Customers will be served their morning coffee in a bright yellow R U OK? cup and encouraged to take the important message into their workplace, homes and community.
headspace Bunbury will be presenting to schools throughout the week to promote the message and provide young people with support and tips on how to keep a healthy headspace.
headspace Bunbury centre manager Marie Eckersley said the day was a reminder that starting a conversation with someone who was struggling could improve a person’s mental and emotional wellbeing.
“To have meaningful conversations is something we can all do and it is important that people are encouraged to ask R U OK?” she said.
“Having this conversation keeps people connected and can make a massive difference to someone who is struggling.”
headspace Youth Reference Group member Caitlin Quill said starting a conversation with someone about how they are feeling could be scary.
“Talking with someone can really change their life for the better, asking someone R U OK?” she said.
“It allows people to connect and to know they are not alone and that someone is looking out for them, it is as easy as having someone’s back and being there to listen to them but it may just save a life.”
