Tree cutting permits under Labor government
The last time we had a Labor government they appeared to have committees in every town and city encroaching on people’s lives.
None more so than areas with excellent growth prospects, a tad different this time round thus far I hasten to add.
As a consequence, councils permits to cut firewood on your own property, would see the re-emergence of over the top government.
A concept that would see the man/woman in the beige cardigan with a pocket full of pencils, being dragged away from his/her desk and thrust into the limelight.
Given that there’s people who take absolutely no notice of any law wouldn’t it be a better prospect seeing money going toward improving education?
An aspect much in the news in recent times because of a proclaimed lack of funds.
Obviously, any deviation from the status quo would mean extra cost, the one thing the McGowan government is trying to avoid!

Environmental impact of Bunbury Outer Ring Road
In response to Bunbury Mail’s, Protest over road design, in the September 12 edition regarding the Bunbury Outer Ring Road.
I sincerely hope that the detrimental environmental impact this proposed route has, will convince the government to look for a more suitable option for the ring road.
However, I also think that we should not ignore the fact that not only endangered possums, cockatoos and other flora and fauna will be impacted, but also people’s life’s and livelihood.
The current proposed route leads straight through people’s backyards, cutting properties in half, leaving residents with a freeway literally on their doorstep.
I am aware the proposed/planned route has been talked about by Main Roads for the past 40 years.
However, the suburb of Gelorup has since grown, people moved into the area for the rural lifestyle and paid high prices to enjoy the bushland and peace and quiet, which urban suburbs don’t provide.
The proposed route is a shocking example of bad forward planning, not only short term by wiping out precious animal habitat, but within a few years’ time, as both the Perth areas and especially the southern areas in and around the Geographe and Margaret River regions grow.
This freeway route will be already too small again, and will have no room to expand and cater for growing numbers of traffic.
So why not look for a better option now, and bypass the Bunbury area properly, by not cutting some of its outskirts in half.
There are numerous other concerns, such as fire hazards, bushfire escape routes, water contamination and of course noise levels, which I believe require further proper investigation.
I would like to call on yourselves as journalists and local, state and federal governments to ensure proper research has been done before further development of the Bunbury Outer Ring Road.
