A man charged over drug and weapons offences has been remanded into custody and refused bail.
Gregory Gordan Morgan entered Bunbury Magistrates Court via custody on Thursday, September 13.
Carrying charges of having ready access to weapons and illegal drugs, possessing cannabis, possessing drug paraphernalia, possessing methamphetamine with intent to sell or supply, and unlawfully possessing a controlled or prescription drug, Mr Morgan faced court seeking bail.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Greg Ward told the court Mr Morgan was sleeping in his girlfriend’s car in Glen Iris and was approached by police at 6.20am on September 12.
Officers allegedly found a knife – featuring a 6-centimetre sharpened blade – within arm’s reach of Mr Morgan in the car.
They also allegedly uncovered cannabis, a small amount of meth, and a smoking implement during their search.
During his apprehension, police also allegedly found cash and compelling text messages on a phone in his possession.
Mr Morgan’s lawyer, Jen de Clerk, said her client told police it was a “communal phone” that had been used by multiple people.
She said Mr Morgan had relapsed into using drugs three to four weeks prior to the incident, and had admitted to owning the meth, cannabis, and smoking implement.
Sgt. Ward said nothing could be put in place to help grant bail to Mr Morgan.
The court was told his record included a three-and-a-half year prison sentence for grievous bodily harm and aggravated assault.
Mr Morgan was given a suspended sentence, of 15 months suspended for one year, in October 2017 for one count of unlawful wounding.
Magistrate Brian Mahon described Mr Morgan’s previous convictions as being part of a “short but unattractive history”.
Mr Mahon said Mr Morgan had also made “damaging admissions” to police.
He declared Mr Morgan would be at risk of committing further crimes if he was to receive bail.
The accused was remanded into custody and ordered to return via video link in October.
