Bunbury Fringe Festival 2019 organisers are anticipating an event filled with exciting performances and happy-go-lucky patrons.
Fringe Festival organiser Jo O’Dea said they planned to link up with more people and businesses in the community.
“We’re now incorporated so we have an incredible team of people that are behind the event,” she said.
“We’re also working towards accessibility and community ownership of the event.”
Organisers have developed plans to host a speakeasy night, plays from state theatre companies, local and independent music acts, burlesque performances, drag shows, multimedia creations, and productions due to be created specifically for the festival.
Ms O’Dea said they hoped to collaborate with Across the Road Music for an enormous show on the final night.
“I think it all creates that sense of place and a sense of feeling and belonging,” she said.
“We want to involve as many spaces as possible.
“We’re also inviting other businesses to come on-board as Fringe buddies to run their own small events that we can help them with.”
The City of Bunbury has backed the annual festival, donating $50,000 over three years as part of its multi-year seed funding program created to bring socially and economically beneficial events to the region.
The funding will carry through until 2020.
City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan said the festival gave community members and tourists more of an incentive to visit the CBD.
