Are you excited for the second annual Bunbury-Geographe Gift?
Organisers of the 2019 Westrac Bunbury-Geographe Gift have revealed next year's event has been bookmarked for Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3.
Bunbury-Geographe Gift organiser Jo O’Dea said the response to last year’s event from community members and competitors was enough to bring it back.
“We have almost secured enough sponsorship but we’re always looking to have more people if they are out there,” she said.
“Second year round, we have already got so many systems in place.
“Planning is well underway, the venue is booked, and we are really looking forward to a massive weekend.”
Returning to the Bunbury Recreation Ground near the Back Beach, the event will include every race category from this year’s Gift.
The committee has begun developing a “more sophisticated” website to assist competitor registrations.
Ms O’Dea said they were confident athletes from around Western Australia and Australia would head to Bunbury for next year’s Gift.
She added they planned to utilise the area and spaces provided to their maximum potential during the competition.
“Something that I have discovered through organising the event is that Gift racing is quite unique and a lot of athletes love getting involved,” she said.
“It pulls together the athletic community.
“The ideal thing about a Gift is that you don’t have to be a professional athlete to compete.
“We’re hoping this year, by setting it before the football season, we can actually get some other athletes and sports people involved.”
She said grants provided by the City of Bunbury, Regional Events, and corporate outlets made plans for next year’s Gift a reality.
