The Bunbury Bulldogs’ women’s side pulled off an extraordinary achievement in 2018 – remaining undefeated throughout the season before taking out the premiership title in style.
After surprising South Bunbury in the preliminary final, Harvey Bulls was determined to topple the Bulldogs in Sunday’s showdown.
The Bulls came close to achieving their goal.
Harvey dominated possession in the first term and kept play in its forward 50, setting up Harmony Staszewski-Hose for the game’s first goal.
On the counter-attack late in the term, the Bulldogs made haste down the ground and found 2018 leading goal-scorer Casara Hill who then booted her first for the game.
The reigning premiers appeared troubled, and strived to overcome their four-point quarter-time deficit.
Goals to Hill, Georgia Mahony, Courtney Babich, and Best on Ground Lilly Taylor were all part of the Bulldogs’ return to form in the second quarter.
Bunbury pleased its fans in the second and held a 5.1.31 to 1.4.10 lead at the main break.
Not to be ignored, Harvey answered with two goals from star forward Zoe Worsfold.
Harvey had shrunk the gap to seven by three-quarter time, but could not catch up in the final term.
The Bulldogs earned their second consecutive premiership title with a 5.3.33 to 3.6.24 win.
Having replaced former Bulldogs’ coach Trish Lake in 2018, Bunbury Coach Sean Creasey applauded his side’s efforts during the season as well the competition’s other seven teams.
