Sumo Salad, Bunbury is selling strawberries to help farmers and distributors around the country.
The Victoria Street outlet is selling cups of strawberries to customers for $1.50 each, as well as regular-sized strawberry punnets.
Sumo Salad, Bunbury owner Daniel McNish saw it as a way to assist the strawberry industry and provide good produce to customers.
“I saw a post on Facebook with tonnes of strawberries being dumped off of a truck,” he said.
“I think it’s a good opportunity for cafes in Bunbury to really step up and support the growers.
“Unfortunately, it took a few people two days to destroy what some farmers have worked for over the past 15-20 years.”
The idea caught the eye of Sumo Salad’s head office, with multiple outlets in Perth now considering similar campaigns.
Mr McNish confirmed the outlet would be selling strawberries for the rest of the week.
Western Australian police are currently investigating up to 10 cases of strawberry contamination across the state.
