South West Slammers and Aces Navy superstar Travis Durnin has reached a new level of success in the sport he loves.
The basketballer was recently awarded a spot in the 2018-19 Perth Wildcats Development Academy program, following a stellar 2018 State Basketball League season.
“I’m hoping to develop my skills including team play and ball handling,” he said.
“They do a lot of skills training, so that will help me quite a lot now and down the line.”
Durnin’s scoring, shooting percentage, and rebound statistics increased during the second half of this year’s SBL season.
He turned heads during his 45-point, 18-rebound haul in the Slammers’ final match of the year against Kalamunda Eastern Suns.
I felt more confident towards the end of the season and I started to switch to defence and do the best for my team.

The result made for his 10th 20-plus point performance for the season.
After the Slammers’ 2018 campaign wrapped up, Durnin went on to receive the Men’s SBL Most Improved Player Award.
“It’s pretty crazy, I wasn’t expecting the award at all and I was just really surprised about it,” he said.
“I felt more confident towards the end of the season and so I started to switch to defence and do the best for my team.
“My scoring increased massively compared to last year.
“During the last half of the season, I was averaging 28 points per game.”
Eager to don the Slammers’ colours once again, Durnin assured fans the men and women would return to the play-offs in 2019.
His passion for the game extends to the Bunbury Basketball Association league, shooting an average of 28.75 points per game throughout the 2017/18 season.
