Athletes from Bunbury and all over Western Australia made the trip to Darwin for the 2018 Australian Indoor Beach Volleyball Championships last month.
The South West Dugites picked some astonishing players to go over to Darwin, fielding teams ranging from juniors right through to over 35s.
The Dugites’ o35s mixed team fell to Palmerston in the semi-finals, while the o35s ladies lost to Enogera in the grand final.
The junior boys one side claimed its fifth consecutive national title, before Mandurah defeated the SW junior boys two team in their semi final.
One of Bunbury Indoor Beach Volleyball’s representatives was 12-year-old Jordon Gardiner, with the occasion marking her first ever national beach volleyball tournament.
Gardiner had a ball playing 11 games as part of the Dugites’ junior ladies division one team, who finished runners-up against Darwin.
“It was a really good experience and I would really like to do it again,” she said.
“Representing WA felt really cool, we had a lot of fun.”
Gardiner has a love for all things sport, sharing her time between indoor beach volleyball, hockey, and little athletics.
She and other members of the club are now working towards next year’s Australian Indoor Beach Volleyball Championships in Brisbane.
