Soroptimist International of Bunbury has set out to help change the lives of struggling women and girls in the South West.
The organisation recently donated $2500 to South West Refuge inc.
All funds were raised through its Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again charity event at Grand Cinemas, Bunbury in July.
Soroptimist International of Bunbury president Bernadette Durrell and secretary Maria Fitzgerald met with South West Refuge inc. chairperson Alison Comparti to hand over the cheque last week.
Ms Comparti said they were humbled to receive the donation.
“We provide advocacy for women and children escaping from situations of domestic violence,” she said.
“Donations are incredibly necessary, we wouldn’t be able to provide the services that we deliver if it wasn’t for fundraising.
“We raised about $72,000 last year from fundraising and that all went into our budget considerations.”
Soroptimist International of Bunbury had raised $1000 for South Women’s Refuge inc. on a previous occasion.

Ms Durrell said they were proud to help women as well as groups like South West Refuge inc. across the region.
“Soroptimist is an international women’s organisation whose purpose is to educate, empower and enable young women and girls to reach their full potential,” she said.
“We provide advocacy as well as opportunities to raise funds for projects that meet our goals.
“That aligns nicely with the work of South West Refuge inc.”
Soroptimist International of Bunbury meets at 6.30pm on the first Monday of each month at Mojo’s, Victoria Street.
“Our club has been going for four years and we’re always keen to have women who follow the goals of Soroptimist to come and join us,” Ms Durrell said.
