The City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club has celebrated another successful HitFM Surf to Surf Fun Run.
Organisers and participants went undeterred by the overcast conditions and high winds, making their way to the Back Beach on Sunday, October 14.
A strong contingent of spectators gathered along Ocean Drive to catch competitors achieving new personal bests.
Whilst taking in spectacular views of Bunbury and the coastline, Peter Andrews crossed the line ahead of the competition in the men’s 21.1 kilometre half-marathon.
Bree Delfs stepped up to the challenge and finished first in the women’s division.
Jarrad Turner and Rebecca Griffin took out the men’s and women’s 10km runs respectively.
Bunbury athlete Noah McAneny triumphed in the men’s 5km run, while Carolyn Mader was crowned the women’s 5km champion.
It’s a great community event, it has a great spirit, and it’s a true seasonal fun run.
- City of Bunbury SLSC president Denise Duncan
Men’s 10km participant Brett Whitford said the annual event gave its competitors the chance to have fun and meet new people.
“It’s healthy, and it’s good for people to get out and become positive-minded and focused,” he said.
Bunbury SLSC president Denise Duncan thanked the City of Bunbury, club members, and sponsors for helping to bring this year’s event to life.
“It’s a great community event, it has a great spirit, and it’s a true seasonal fun run,” she said.
“The event is all about having fun and getting fit.
“Being a community club, it feels great to share it with everyone.
“It’s our biggest fundraiser for the year, so it’s a way we can earn funds while having a good time.”
