Basketball star Georgia Denehey, 19, has made the leap from the South West Slammers to the Joondalup Wolves ahead of the 2019 State Basketball League season.
After relocating to Perth earlier this year, Denehey became hot property and met with five SBL team coaches before joining the Wolves.
“I decided to go home and play one more year at the Slammers,” she said.
“After this past season I was keen to play up in Perth and be more involved with the groups up here.
“The Wolves have the best program, they’re so organisational, they look after everyone and they have great facilities, so it was an easy decision for me.”
The 19-year-old said the prospect of playing on a new team, under the careful eye of respected coach Charles Nix, excited her.
She and the squad are confident 2019 would see them aim high and reach the final game of the year.
“It will be good for me to learn and develop, and be constantly pushed at training,” she said.
Denehey and fellow South West powerhouse Tayah Burrows have recently been making waves in the 2018/19 Perth Lynx Development squad.
“We have about three girls from last year, so we’re much more versatile this year,” she said.
“Everyone can play three or four positions, it’s great and really competitive.
“It’s a really professional organisation, it’s nice to see what it’s like at that level and to see how good you really have to be to play in the National Women’s Basketball League.”

Denehey began 2018 by captaining Western Australia’s Under 20s side at the National Championships in Gosford, New South Wales.
She then hit the court for the South West Slammers, who narrowly missed out on a place in the play-offs.
“It was a great group of girls, great imports, and a really good run,” she said.
“It has been a big year, basketball wise.”
