Following two seasons as South West Slammers women’s assistant coach, Nathan Grover has stepped up to lead the side in 2019.
Grover was last week promoted to head coach ahead of the 2019 State Basketball League season, replacing the outgoing Peter Harper.
Darren Austin will serve as Slammers women’s assistant coach next year.
The Slammers women’s side missed the playoffs on percentages last season, finishing ninth with nine wins and 13 losses.
Grover has signed on for the next two seasons, carrying aspirations of leading the team into the play-offs.
“I am pretty familiar with the group and how it works, so it’ll be good to step up and start working with the girls,” he said.
“I have been in the league for five years and became used to the assistant role.
“We’ve improved every year for the past three years, so the aim is to get more wins than last year and then play in the finals.”

Grover’s campaign has already begun, with the coach looking out for talent within the Bunbury Basketball Association league.
He has already conducted his own review of the 2018 season.
“There’s plenty of talent out there within the 16 to 18 year old age range, and we’ve already identified a few of those girls within the squad,” he said.
“The addition of new teams in the A-Grade competition gives us more access to some of the players that may not have been identified previously.”
Prior to his time at the Slammers, Grover was assistant coach during the Cockburn Cougars men’s team’s 2016 championship win.
