People with disability in the South West will now have greater access to Bunbury Bowling Club facilities, following the official opening of the club’s wheelchair-accessible synthetic bowling green on Tuesday, October 23.
Sport and Recreation Minister Mick Murray, Bunbury MLA Don Punch, Bunbury Bowling Club members, and WA iSports inc. representatives gathered to celebrate greater access to the club’s facilities.
The State Government provided $200,000 for the project as part of its pledge to deliver more inclusive sporting opportunities in Bunbury.
The Bunbury Bowling Club also provided considerable funding for the project.
Mr Murray said Bunbury could now boast an inclusive facility, which was welcoming to all.
“Local sport and recreation facilities are vital for keeping our communities connected, healthy and vibrant, and again this government is making sure regional WA gets a fair go,” he said.
“This club now promises to be an important draw for bowling enthusiasts.”
There is a real commitment in Bunbury to inclusive sports and Bunbury Bowling Club’s initiative to develop an accessible green is a great example of that.

Thanks to a new partnership, WA iSports inc. athletes now compete in Bunbury Bowling Club’s weekly corporate lawn bowls tournament.
“There is a real commitment in Bunbury to inclusive sports and Bunbury Bowling Club’s initiative to develop an accessible green is a great example of that,” Mr Punch said.
“Social inclusion and community participation are really important to the health and wellbeing of all Western Australians, so I am proud to be part of a government that is supporting and funding projects like this.
“The Bunbury Bowling Club is a great club and its activities and events will now be accessible to even more members of our community, thanks to the hard work of the club and support from the McGowan Government.”
