The City of Bunbury has unveiled its new works depot designed to bring a multitude of departments together.
Replacing the 50-year-old Carey Park facility, the new depot features office spaces along with a sign shop, mechanical store, tool shed, welding workshop, carpentry workshop, storage spaces, and vehicle storage areas.
The depot currently holds 104 staff members.
Construction by Civilcon began in August 2017 and wrapped up in July.
City of Bunbury Mayor Gary Brennan led the depot’s official opening celebrations on Wednesday, October 24.
The event brought together City of Bunbury staff members, councillors, and government representatives at the Sutherland Way facility.
Senior Contract and Procurement Officer Dave Russell was on hand to show guests around the depot.
Mr Brennan said the facility brought varying departments together to create savings and develop a community atmosphere.
“It’s contemporary and includes everything a workplace in Bunbury, or the South West, could require,” he said.
“The whole place is such an improvement on what was around previously.
“I am suggesting the savings may go into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
Having worked for the city for more than 50 years, former supervisor Graeme Morton was honoured during the event.
Mr Morton was confident the depot would help to improve communication between the departments.
“It’s good to see it has come to fruition after so long,” he said.
“It’s bringing everyone back together, whereas before it was fragmented with different departments all over the place.”
