A man who faced seven charges in Bunbury Magistrates Court has been granted bail.
Shane William O’Neill faced Magistrate Belinda Coleman on October 25 over charges of criminal damage/destruction of property, disorderly behaviour in a police station/lock-up, disorderly behaviour in public, possessing cannabis, possessing drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, and threatening to kill another person.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Greg Ward told the court Mr O’Neill was allegedly involved in a dispute at a caravan park in Kirup on October 22.
Sgt. Ward then described an incident from June 2015, in which Mr O’Neill had committed criminal damage by fire.
The court heard Mr O’Neill had been living in a caravan at a North Greenbushes home at the time.
Police were called to the home following an argument between Mr O’Neill and the homeowner.
While officers were interviewing the homeowner, Mr O’Neill poured petrol inside his caravan before creating a trail of petrol between the caravan and the home.
He then used a lighter to set the caravan and a shed on fire, causing $80,000 damage.
Mr O’Neill also made obscene gestures to police during the incident.
Sgt. Ward said Mr O’Neill had shown signs of extreme aggression.
Mr O’Neill’s lawyer said his client had faced the consequences following the 2015 incident.
The defence added Mr O’Neill, in regards his most recent charges, should be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The lawyer revealed Mr O’Neill had two daughters, aged 11 and 12, and had a job as a farmhand on an orchard in the South West.
Mr O’Neill received a $10,000 personal undertaking and a $10,000 surety.
He was also given a curfew and directed to follow police orders at all times.
Ms Coleman ordered him not to enter the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup.
The defence said Mr O’Neill would be able to get someone to transport his belongings from Kirup to his new address.
The case was remanded to Thursday, December 6.
