Thomas Buchanan’s remarkable form with the bat helped Leschenault to claim its first win of the 2018/19 Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association season.
Prior to Saturday’s showdown, the Green Caps were dwelling at the bottom of the ladder while Dalyellup Beach was clinging to fourth spot.
Leschenault needed quick runs and a long time at the crease to take home the points.
Opening batsman Kurt D’Agostino’s inning was short, caught and bowled by Liam Renton (4/37 from 10 overs) for five.
The visitors were then 2/42 after Nathan Douch (12 off 36) was stumped by Dalyellup wicketkeeper Mitchell Boyle.
Spending nearly two-and-a-half hours at the crease, Buchanan knocked a whopping 111 off 112.
Along with scoring a century, he notched up an impressive 11 fours and two sixes.
Green Caps wicketkeeper Matt Buchanan added to the run count with 26 off 29, including four fours.
Renton then went on the warpath after trapping Matt Buchanan lbw.
His third scalp came later in the inning, when Jarrad Quinn was caught for eight by Rodney Shemeld.
A catch from Dylan Robertson brought Thomas Buchanan’s run to a close. Leschenault went on to post 5/284.
Chasing Leschenault’s weighty total, Boyle hit 23 off 47 early on.
Corey Fagan was the first to go after being caught by Matthew Bowles for 43.
Leschenault Bowler James Letchford (3/38 from 10 overs) then claimed his second wicket, trapping Shemeld lbw for one.
Dalyellup was 3/73 after Boyle was caught by Michael Newman.
Daniel Lomax slogged 40 off 46, before Renton continued his form with 31 not out off 52.
Bowles (3/30 from 10 overs) then took control, dismissing Paul Ryan (stumped by Matt Buchanan) and Jacob Robinson (caught by Matt Buchanan) for 16.
He claimed this third scalp after Dwayne Franklin caught Jacob Ryan for 22.
Dylan Robinson’s early dismissal spelled trouble for Dalyellup.
The side eventually finished its inning on 9/221.
Colts continued its blistering start to the season with a four wicket triumph over Marist.
Following Adam Spinelli’s dismissal, fellow opener Brayden Clarke hit 22 off 60 before being run out by Cruize Ciallella (4/29 from 10 overs).
Captain Reece O’Connell added to Marist’s run rate with 38 off 56, before Kyle Davis knocked 32 off 53.
Late in the inning, Alan Utterson (run out by Josh Topliss) and Bailey Wootton (caught and bowled Ciallella) were dismissed in quick succession.
Going after Marist’s 8/161 total, Colts opener Jayden Goodwin frustrated the Blues’ bowlers.
The youngster hit six fours and notched up 64 off 127.
Fellow opener Blaze Rosinski wasn’t so lucky, caught and bowled for one by Jack Wilson (2/15 from 10 overs).
The reigning premiers were stranded on 5/91 after the dismissals of Connor Ipsen (10 off 28), Murray Goodwin (12 off 29), and Ciallella (6 off 17).
Joe Barningham (36no off 38) and Riley Miguel (23 of 31) helped Colts to reach Marist’s total with three overs to go.
Eaton celebrated after decimating Hay Park’s batting order on Saturday afternoon.
The dismissals of Cory Fitt for 16 and Ricky Marsh for one saw Eaton in trouble on 2/18.
Eaton was later stranded on 4/67 after Hay Park’s Gregory Stephens claimed Christopher Marrow for 14 and James Hillery for 28.
Captain Clint Hewson then launched into a devastating attack, knocking 62 off 72 including four fours and four sixes.
The Redbacks then banded together to dismiss Eaton for 176.
Early in Hay Park’s inning, captain Jono Whitney slogged 25 off 46 while Steven Florance hit 26 off 43.
Thanks to immaculate bowling from Hillery (3/3 from 2.1 overs), Fitt (3/17 from eight overs), and Hewson (2/16 from five overs), the Redbacks then suffered embarrassing middle and lower collapses.
Hay Park was left to lick its wounds, with the side all out for 96.
After claiming a five-wicket victory over Busselton-Margaret River, BDCA’s Country Cup side earned a 104-run win over WA Invitational XI in round two.
Marist claims second win
Marist’s second grade side cruised to victory in its round four showdown against Harvey-Benger on Saturday.
Harvey-Benger struggled in front of a home crowd, with only two of its batsmen reaching double figures.
After dismissing Harvey-Benger for 97, the Blues, with help from Cole Sawyer (37 off 107), reached the home side’s total with 15 overs remaining.
Collie sits second on the ladder after its sterling performance against Colts at Bunbury Recreation Ground.
Aided by Lee Sorfleet (45 off 62), Colts fought to post 104 after 37 overs.
Matthew Tanner starred for the Coalminers with 4/16 from 10 overs.
Following the early dismissals of Brayden Kent and Bailey Moloney, Mark Williams knocked an immaculate 70 not out off 71.
Collie reached Colts’ total in just 20.5 overs.
A high-scoring affair saw Eaton claim victory over Leschenault.
The Green Caps soared thanks to opener Scott Langford (46, including six fours) and Jason Shine (41, including seven fours).
Determined to reach Leschenault’s 9/205 total, Eaton batsman Matthew Stevens posted 85.
The Beavers sealed the win with 1.4 overs to go.
Capel posted 8/300 during its clash with Dalyellup Beach, with three batsmen notching up half-centuries.
Dalyellup’s batting order was then obliterated by the home side.
Capel needed just 16.4 overs to dismiss the visitors for 34.
