Bunbury students have been exploring their families’ involvement in World War I in the lead up to Remembrance Day and the 100 anniversary of Armistice.

The Dalyellup College school community has been collecting heirlooms and artefacts from staff and students, creating a display to help piece together the collective history within the region.

Humanities and social sciences teacher Karyn Parker said it was about helping students to look at the past and see where they all came from.

“We wanted to see if we could find any connections throughout the school with World War I and asked the students to bring in photos, books, momentos,” she said.

Humanities and social sciences teacher Kate Barker said Year 9 students had been doing research on ANZAC’s and their experiences of the war and developing biographies.

“Asha’s great great grandfather took 100s of photos during the war and then when he got home meticulously pasted them into a photo album and labeled everything – so that’s really interesting,” she said.
