The 2018 Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show was recently held in Mildura.
It culminated in the public and exhibitors tasting on Saturday, November 10, with the various trophies announced at the Awards Long Lunch that same afternoon.
Vineyard 28 was awarded Best Italian Red Wine, sponsored by CHR Hansen, for their 2018 Vineyard 28 Dolcetto.
This is the first vintage of this wine for Vineyard 28.
Dolcetto is a black Italian grape variety, known for its low levels of acidity and tendency to be ready for an early harvest.
This fruit is grown at their Wildwater vineyard site in Harvey.
Th wine is full of flavours, red berry fruit, sarsaparilla, hints of rosewater, grainy herbs, cedar and spices.
Winemaker Mark Cumbers was 'over the moon' when he received the call to advise he had received the award.
Vineyard 28 is a family owned and operated boutique vineyard, where they grow varieties they are passionate about and enjoy making wine from.
The Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show featured 805 entries from 207 exhibitors from 62 wine regions across Australia, encompassing 101 unique grape varieties.
The Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show encourages cutting-edge judging procedures and provides a host of social and educational events that promote knowledge sharing and the ferment of ideas.
