A 22-year-old man was fined $800 in Bunbury Magistrates Court over an incident earlier this year.
The man attended court on Thursday, November 29 after pleading guilty to charges of obstructing police officers and trespassing.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Karl Rep told the court the man was seen jumping over fences and climbing onto the roof of a house around 6.20pm on June 8.
The court heard the man, while travelling from Picton to Glen Iris on foot, had become confused after taking illicit substances.
While being escorted to a police vehicle, the 22-year-old ran from officers before being apprehended and charged a short time later.
The man’s lawyer said his client was currently living with his parents.
The defence revealed the man was living on Centrelink payments and had been looking for work as a tradesman.
The court heard the man had spent time at Tenacious House – Men’s Health and Recovery Centre between July and October, completing the pot program in the process.
Magistrate Evan Shackleton noted the man did not have an extensive record prior to the incident.
“Methamphetamine started to get you into trouble,” he said.
Mr Shackleton also acknowledged the 22-year-old had made progress through drug rehabilitation.
“There’s no reason you cannot go forward and have a good life,” he said.
The man had previously been given spent convictions.
However, Mr Shackleton was still pleased that the man had pulled himself up and gotten himself out of trouble.
Granting a spent conviction, the magistrate urged the 22-year-old to go out and find work.
