St Nicholas Ecumenical Catholic Church, Bunbury is busily preparing an event to assist cancer sufferers and their families.
The church is set to hold a ‘Rose Pink Sunday’ service on Sunday, December 16 at 5pm.
Held at St Augustine’s Uniting Church on Mangles Street, the service will include an anointing of the sick for those living with breast cancer or any form of cancer.
The church is asking for attendees to wear something rose pink or purple.
Parish Priest Father Mark Bell said the service would acknowledge those surviving cancer and those who have lost their lives to cancer.
He said all community members – regardless of faith, gender, or sexual orientation – were invited to attend.
“There are a lot of people who have died during the year or who are facing death. There are also people in the hospital who are fighting cancer,” he said.
“Often, a lot of people don’t get spiritual support so when they face challenges like this they start questioning God.
“We’re hoping to offer some support to people in the wider community. It’s about breaking down some barriers and showing that the church still has relevance for people.”
St Nicholas is an independent catholic church within the Catholic Apostolic Tradition.
