For one Bunbury man, Movember has come to mean so much more than growing a mo.
City of Bunbury senior library officer Michael Fraser first started participating in Movember two years ago.
“Originally we started as a team at the library a couple of years ago, I had recently lost my father, who was quite young in age,” he said.
“So we banded together and thought we’d start Movember.
“I think he would be very proud, especially to see everyone that has come on board with the chief executive and Mayor – I never would have dreamed that that would happen.”
The City of Bunbury Movember team celebrated the end of the month with a trip to Leo’s to shave their mo’s off after raising around $3,000.
“Two years on it’s grown into this fantastic event, we’ve got to so much more support from all the staff and we’re just having a wonderful time and raising funds for this fantastic charity,” Mr Fraser said.
“It means a lot to me, especially because we have a lot of men who are dying way too young and that’s the important message of the Movember Foundation.
“Every year we are losing 60 men an hour to suicide and that’s a big number – very scary.
“So it’s all about raising awareness to tell men, look after yourselves and don’t be afraid to go to the doctors – you’re important to everyone.”
