The growth of our city and the Bunbury-Geographe region will escalate over 2019 and beyond.
In addition to further stages of the Transforming Bunbury Waterfront project, we will see the commencement of other private and public capital projects that have been planned for some years.
The largest positive economic impact will be the Albemarle Lithium refinery construction at Kemerton.
That project and the ongoing expansion by the Talison joint venture at Greenbushes has driven related studies by government and the private sector to further identify and secure the many opportunities that will result.
The improving pace of take-up of vacant office and retail space in Bunbury over the past few months indicates our economy is gaining momentum notwithstanding challenges remain.
Business failures have a distressing financial and emotional impact on sub-contractors and their employees and I look forward to these instances becoming remote if at all.
My confidence in our future is reinforced each year as I attend high school Year 12 graduations and primary school Year 6 graduations that leave me in awe of the maturity and confidence these students have.
It’s a great credit to their parents and schools.
At the City of Bunbury council level, we will strive to continue to focus on strategic matters and support our Executive as they drive improvements to productivity and service delivery to our community.
The essential strong partnerships we enjoy with government and the private sector will ensure our community secures the best economic, social, and environmental outcomes possible.
