Many of Australia’s best young cricketers visited Bunbury for the 2018 School Sport Australia 12 and Under National Cricket Championships.
Held from December 12 to 19, the tournament saw plenty of exquisite batting, bowling, and fielding.
In the boys competition, Victoria proved to be the best of the bunch.
The side took down Australian Capital Territory in the final, before New South Wales cruised to victory over Western Australia 1 in the third-place playoff.
“I think Australia has a lot of great prospects; there’s been a lot of talent in this competition,” WA 1 coach Luke Green said.
South Australia claimed fifth with an easy win over WA 2.
The girls competition ended with a remarkable performance from New South Wales, defeating Queensland by 61 runs in the decider.
Victoria claimed third with a win over South Australia, while WA defeated ACT in the fifth-place play-off.
“We’ve been very impressed with the talent we’ve seen,” School Sport Australia cricket advisor Peter Smith said.
“There are some really talented girls from all over Australia, and I’ve been impressed by the boys as well.
“They are all really well coached by their individual representatives.
“The support from the local clubs and the City of Bunbury has also been fantastic.”
