People from all over the South West gathered at Bunbury Trotting Club to ring in the new year on Monday night.
The New Year’s Eve Fireworks Spectacular saw some of Australia and New Zealand’s best reinsmen hit the track at Donaldson Park.
Driver Aiden De Campo was unfazed while leading Tellmetoattack ($3.70) to victory in the first race of the evening – the TABTouch 3yo MS Pace (2100 metres).
The race favourite, New Zealand bay gelding Betterpiece, held onto second spot at the bell before finishing runner up.
In the TABTouch – Better Your Industry MS Pace (2100m), trainer/driver Dean Miller and I’m Entitled ($3.50) picked up the $2,562 first prize.
Behind race favourite Solo Interceptor at the bell, I’m Entitled used the sprint lane to finish 1.80m ahead of second-placed Disco Durante.
Trainer/Driver Kaiden Hayter pushed New Zealand’s Hoiho ($4.20) to win the feature race, the $25,000 TABTouch New Year’s Eve MS Pace (2100m).
The bay gelding led at the bell before crossing the line 9.60m ahead of fellow Kiwi bay gelding All Jokes Aside.
De Campo and NZ bay gelding Punter’s Dream rounded out the top three, finishing 14.90m behind Hoiho.
