A man allegedly at the centre of a crash on Easter Sunday last year still hasn’t received any legal advice.
Christopher Robert Bekkers attended Bunbury Magistrates Court via video link from Bunbury Regional Prison on Thursday, January 10.
Mr Bekkers faced charges over being a driver and failing to ensure each victim involved in an incident had received assistance, being a driver in an incident and failing to stop immediately, driving while impaired by drugs, driving with a suspended licence, driving without ever holding a licence, possessing methamphetamine, possessing drug paraphernalia, possessing stolen/unlawfully obtained property, and stealing a motor vehicle.
He had also been given two charges of driving and failing to comply with a direction to stop, and two of reckless driving to escape pursuit by police.
Police allege officers saw a Holden Commodore travelling on Brittain Road around 2.45pm on Sunday, April 1.
Mr Bekkers, allegedly driving the vehicle, then attempted to cross over the boom gates on Robertson Drive before colliding with a train.
Officers allegedly found Mr Bekkers in the vicinity of Wallrodt Cresent before arresting him.
Police also allege they, while searching the vehicle, uncovered items believed to have been stolen.
When asked about his legal advice, Mr Bekkers revealed he had not been able to get in contact with “anyone outside of prison”.
The duty lawyer representing Mr Bekkers told the court his client required an adjournment to seek legal advice.
Magistrate Evan Shackleton agreed to remand the matters to a later date.
Mr Bekkers will return to court via video link on Thursday, January 31.
