It was all smiles at the City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club during the Downwind Classic Paddle on January 12.
The 14-kilometre event saw 39 competitors hit the surf at Stratham Beach before making their way to the Back Beach.
In a wide field of ocean ski, spec ski, and stand up paddlers, James Duncan finished first ahead of second-placed Kelby Murray.
Amanda Bowman was the first female across the line, with Tara Smith coming second.
Gary and Bernice Butlion were the first ‘Double’ to complete the race, crossing in 1:11:08.
City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club president Denise Duncan said the annual event made for a fun day out.
“We first started this event nine years ago as a training session and then made it a bit more formal,” she said.
“The competitors get a great deal of fellowship and camaraderie from it.”
Duncan thanked the City of Bunbury for proudly sponsoring the event.
