South West Animal Rescue is celebrating after receiving some much-needed assistance from P&N Bank.
Through its Helping &nds program, the bank recently donated $2000 to the Bunbury-based organisation.
The funds will help the service to remain in operation in 2019.
P&N Bank Bunbury Branch Manager Donna Gibbs said Helping &nds has provided valuable support to community groups across the state.
“This is exactly what P&N Bank’s Helping &nds program is all about – providing financial support which can be directed into an area of need, such as giving hope to abandoned pets,” she said.
“As Western Australia’s largest locally owned bank, this is why we exist; to enrich the lives of our customers and the communities in which they live.”
South West Animal Rescue has rescued, rehabilitated, and re-homed more than 2000 domestic animals.
Manning one office in Dalyellup as well as a handful of shelters in the region, the group’s five members rescue around 200 abandoned animals each year.
The group also assists with a variety of services including sterilisations, vaccinations, and microchipping.
Despite its efforts, the organisation has struggled to attain grant funding.
The group has had to continually reach into its own account to get by.
South West Animal Rescue president Tanya Adams and vice president Wendy Ottrey were touched by P&N Bank’s overwhelming kindness and generosity.
“It was a relief because this is a busy time and we do struggle a little bit with finances,” Mrs Adams said.
“There were times where we were down to under $1000 in our account, and we had to stop taking in animals because we didn’t have the money.
“The funding will give us a bit of breathing space and we can relax a bit for a while.
“The goal is to have enough funds coming in to keep going.
“These animals don’t deserve to be euthanised, so we have got to keep going.”
