Koombana Bay Sailing Club members Gary Gornall and Scott Golder recently travelled to Wallis Lake, New South Wales to compete in the NACRA National titles.
The seven-strong NACRA F18 Infusion catamaran fleet raced out of Great Lakes Sailing Club and saw competitors travel from all over Australia.
Gornall and Golder had the win secured before the final race had even started, illustrating just how strong the local competition is.
Gornall’s son, Leigh Gornall, clinched his second consecutive 16-square national title.
“It’s a good, healthy sport that you can share with your family, my sons have sailed with me previously,” Gary Gornall said.
Koombana Bay Sailing Club had two junior sailors in the 2019 Australian Youth Championships in Hobart.
Sailing out of the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, Shannon Dalton, with new crew member Finn O'Dea, placed 4th overall.
Will Drew, experiencing his first time racing at the helm of a NACRA 15 alongside new crew member Chris Campbell, placed 10th overall after missing a race.
Over 230 young sailors took over the River Derwent to compete in the event.
All sailors were aged under 19 and travelled from across Australia as well as Japan and Singapore.
