Isabella, 13, and Joshua Commons, 14, are two of the South West’s best cyclists.
Joshua – along with Jay Lindorff, James Derrick, and Oliver Bleddyn – won bronze in the JM17 3000-metre Team Pursuit at last year’s Australian Junior Track Championships.
In August, he took out the Under 17 State title at the WA Junior Road Championships.
He then claimed the U17 State Criterium Championship title in December.
“Winning a state title feels great; wearing the state jersey is a really cool thing about it,” he said.
The 14-year-old is now preparing for the 2019 Track Nationals in March and the Road Nationals in September, both in Queensland.
At the State Junior Individual Time Trial Championships, Isabella won the women’s event ahead of Emily Wiggins.
She and Joshua then scored a home-town advantage. Last September, they competed in the 2018 Cycling Australia Junior National Road Championships in Bunbury and Dardanup.
In her first nationals, Isabella placed fourth in the Junior Women’s U15 Road Race.
She went on to finish second at the U17 State Criterium Championships.
Eager to learn more, she started track cycling late last year.
Along the way, Isabella and Joshua have received immense support from the South West Cycle Club.
The duo’s father, and the South West Cycle Club’s coordinator, Robert Commons said he was extremely proud of their efforts.
